My Story
I’m Anju Gupta, a wheelchair user due to polio at just 1 year old. Born into a middle-class family, my father ran a small grocery shop, and my mother was a homemaker. Life at home wasn’t easy; acceptance was a challenge. I spent my childhood and education years with my grandparents.
My path was far from smooth. There were hurdles and prejudices to overcome. Staying consistent in school was a struggle, and there came a point where it seemed I might have to give up my education. Despite many ups and downs, I managed to earn a master’s degree but couldn’t secure a job.
Then, life took a turn. I crossed paths with a special educator who introduced me to the world of special education. As a wheelchair user, I made a life-changing decision. In 2019, I enrolled in a special education course at KIRAN Society.
Upon completing the course, I applied for a position as a primary teacher with the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board and, to my delight, got selected. Now, I proudly serve as a government primary teacher, living an independent life.
I owe my success to the dedicated teachers in the field of special education who guided me on this incredible journey.
