PCCU Early Intervention

The Parents & Child Care Unit (PCCU): For parents of disabled children PCCU is the “entrance-door” to KIRAN centre. Parents and children first come to this unit for assessment and counselling. A therapist, a special educator and an experienced Neurologist are available per day to assess the child, listen to the parents and the child, counsel, give proper diagnostic advice and medical treatment, when needed, and suggest to the related departments regarding follow-up rehabilitation-process.

As KIRAN situates far from the city (12 KM), parents carry their child from the different corners of the Varanasi city. KIRAN is obliged to the commitment of those parents and their child to prepare an effective plan after carefully listening to them. It is the basic principle, on which PCCU works with every new child, that the parents’ priority comes first, in order to encourage them in their work with the child. After some development is seen, it (PCCU) sensitises the parents and facilitates a better interaction between the child and the parents. Then, implementation of a developmental plan, carefully made by the various developmental professionals, follows.

Considering the great importance of the parents’ role in the development of the neurologically impaired child, PCCU tries to support parents in a special way, so as to enable them to face the challenge with courage and competence.
